Stephen Colbert: Best Non-Stand-Up Comedian. Ever.

Originally from South Carolina and a proponent of everything American, Stephen Colbert is one of the funniest comedians out there. Long before his hit talk show The Colbert Report, Stephen was a member of the Second City improv-comedy group in Chicago. Then in the 1990’s, Colbert moved to New York where he and some of his comedian friends created the half hour television series Exit 57. When that show was done, Colbert and the same friends created the popular comedy series Strangers with Candy.

Stephen has been a part of many other film and television endeavors, starring opposite Will Ferrell in the movie Bewitched. Stephen has also wrote, voice acted for, and appeared on the ever popular sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. More famously, Stephen was a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central before getting his own show on the same network. Now you can see Stephen in action hosting his show, The Colbert Report, with new episodes airing Monday night through Thursday night.

It is still my intention to exclusively write about stand-up comedians in this blog, but I couldn’t go on much longer without mentioning my favorite comedian of all time, Stephen Colbert. I watch The Colbert Report religiously on TV and on the internet. In all seriousness, it's how I catch up on news I otherwise wouldn’t be interested in. The character that Stephen portrays on the show (with the same name) is an ultra conservative, republican, Jesus and America-loving elitist. But the thing is he’s hilarious, mocking politics while acting serious at the same time. If you haven’t seen The Colbert Report you should watch it to see what I mean. It’s really a show for anyone who enjoys comedy, whether you’re into politics or not. I’m not into politics at all, but I love Colbert and his show. So what are you waiting for? Join the Colbert Nation!
